Synergy Jazz is singer Mary Raft Knea, husband bassist Rick Knea and guitarist Steve Prager. Specializing in jazz standards plus jazzed-up pop and country tunes, they performed Friday evening at Swirl Wine Shop and Lounge in Downtown Nampa. Here’s one of my favorite songs made popular by Dusty Springfield and Dionne Warwick.
Ashley Rose is a jazz & soul-infused Americana musician based in Boise. She, and her friend Tim Green performed an evening of jazz standards at Swirl Wine Shop and Lounge in downtown Nampa. I’ve always loved the Billie Holiday classic “God Bless the Child”, and this duo really did it justice. Sadly, I LOST the video! :-(
Guitarist to the Stars, Gary Tackett and percussionist Grant Green, played Bourbon & Blues night at Maddie’s Wine and Whiskey Thursday evening. Gary is influenced by the powerful Electric and Acoustic work of Eric Clapton and the heartfelt songwriting of Merle Haggard. Speaking of Merle, here’s one of his songs, “Workin’ Man Blues”.
Spencer Batt is a Boise-based singer/songwriter who grew up in the hop fields of Idaho’s Snake River Valley. He specializes in taking songs we love and making them his own, influenced by 60’s and 70’s rock ‘n roll. Here is a sweet example of an Allman Bros song.
Rochelle & The James Gang, a local cover band, helped Swirl Wine Shop & Lounge welcome in Autumn on Thursday evening in Downtown Nampa. While shop patrons enjoyed the wine-tasting and food truck offerings, Rochelle and company entertained by delivering songs people love.
Andrew Cahill, a Boise-based singer/songwriter, played the picturesque Kindred Vineyards in Caldwell Sunday afternoon. He did mostly covers from artists like CCR, Elvis, Camp, Jason Mraz, Sam Cooke, Vance Joy, The Lumineers, George Ezra, and more. Along the way he showcased some of his music like “Barefoot in the Sand”.
Caldy (Lauren Caldwell and Mike Lemieux) played an evening of Jazz Standards and Jazzed-up Pop songs Friday evening at Swirl Wine Shop and Lounge. Lauren has been in a couple of bands, most recently with Natalie Soma’s band. She has a bachelors in music education with emphasis in voice, and works as an elementary music teacher. This was her first time at Swirl, doing a lovely version of a Dido song you might have forgotten about.
Prairie Blue, a Boise-based band, was the opening act for the final week of Tuesdays on the Creek in Caldwell this season. The band members include Freeman DeJongh, Jacob Geier, Matt Skipper and Treyson Krasowski. I was surprised to learn the band was formed only 2 months ago and their sound seemed very seasoned. Their version of Harvest Moon was absolutely gorgeous. The variety of music was impressive as well as they wandered from Country to Americana, to Blues, Jazz to Swing. They really had the dance area hopping!
Andy Porter is a Boise singer/songwriter who plays a fusion of Blues, Americana and Country music. During a Saturday afternoon session at Kindred Vineyards in Caldwell, he played a good variety of covers from Steve Earl, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and others. Here’s a sample of “Summer Wind”, a song he wrote about growing up in Northern Idaho.
Olivia Frost is a Boise-based singer/songwriter originally from Wyoming. After moving here, she loves touring Idaho and sharing her love of music with intimate audiences. Her music is inspired by the likes of Stevie Nicks, Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton and Noah Kahan. Saturday afternoon, Olivia played on the opening day of the new, beautiful Venue at Wood Farms, in the wine country of Caldwell.
