Red Light Challenge is a high-energy, harmony-filled pop-rock band made up of brothers Sean and Kyle Luster. These guys brought their audience-engaging show to Talon Tap and Spirits at Albertsons in Meridian Friday evening. They do mostly covers from the 60’s to today from artists like The Beatles, The Monkees, Modern English, George Michael, Walk the Moon, Queen, and more. During this show, I caught a sample of their original “You got my number”.

The Don Hurt Band, a Treasure Valley quintet, was the opening band at Tuesdays on the Creek this week at Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. Don did a great job mixing things up and keeping it interesting as during the show I was feeling elements of The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and Bob Seger. Hearing this Willie Nelson classic was great fun.

Natalie Soma is a Treasure Valley singer/songwriter and recording artist who played The 112 in Nampa Saturday evening. She plays half and half covers and originals during her shows. Her originals tend to be on the jazzy side, which I love. We heard covers from the likes of Coldplay, Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, and Donna Summer. The original I captured is brand new, entitled “Make It Out Alive”.
You may not have known this, but on Saturday evening, Nampa held its inaugural Music Festival. Around the downtown area, free live music was featured before the festival began at 5. Timothy P Swanson brought his guitar and energy to The Syringa for a few hours in the afternoon.
If you haven’t been there yet, take some time to check it out. They have coffee all day, and spirits starting at 1pm. The Syringa opens early, and closes late. They are also looking into hosting more music events in the future!

Ryder McIntosh, from the heart of Idaho, brought his country and traditional music to The 112 in Nampa Friday evening. Ryder specializes in story-telling songs like this Doc Watson version of an Irish tune called “Shady Grove”.

Olivia Frost, a Boise-based singer/songwriter, played the Koenig Distillery in Caldwell Saturday afternoon. She was in Nashville recently to record 8 brand new songs, and she played most of them during this show. The first single should release in about a month. The second single is about those people who act one way when they’re around you, and quite differently when they are not. Here is a sample of “Bad Actor”.

EllieMae, who grew up on a dairy farm in Jerome, played her brand of country music Thursday evening at The 112 in Nampa. This lady writes what she knows: country life, family, love and loss, and Coors Light. She is a remarkable story-teller, who tells them in both word and song. Gary Tackett & Full Moon Rude is a Rockin’ Roadhouse band based out of Boise Idaho. Gary and company was the opening act at Tuesdays on the Creek in Caldwell this week. He was a studio musician in Nashville before moving to Boise 8 years ago. During that time, he was honored to play for Merle Haggard, and has been on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Better Than Jam is Grant Wilson on guitar and Jami Wilson on fiddle, who play music from jazz to bluegrass, and some originals. As this married duo played the lawn at Kerry Hill Winery Saturday afternoon, the variety was so great you just didn’t know what kind of song would come next. The song I captured was an original about Bonnie & Clyde.
