Tree City Soul describes itself as Boise’s Funkiest Pop Band, and spent a perfect Spring afternoon at the Riverside Hotel’s Sandbar Patio & Grill Saturday. Fronted by Darian Renee, this quintet did diverse music from artists like The Pretenders, Gnarls Barkley, Michelle Branch, Bill Withers, Dobie Gray, Aretha Franklin, Santana, Eric Clapton, The Romantics, and this from Hall & Oates.
Emily & the Tiptones performed at Talon Tap & Spirits Saturday evening. Emily’s Instagram profile promises free hugs for all. You will want to take her up on that. In their first set, they did what Emily described as her theme song about getting tired of being an adult. I’ve been feeling much the same way recently, so here’s a sample.
The Canyon Kids, made up of Bo Elledge and Dusty Nichols, played the Swirl Wine Shop & Lounge Friday evening. We heard a good variety of covers and originals from this duo, who been at it since 2012. The covers included music from The Wood Bros, Bahamas, Jimmy Buffett, Allman Bros, Green Day, Beach Boys, Beatles, and CSN&Y. “Indecision Ocean” is the original I captured for you.
Jordan Shaw writes and performs country music that pays respect to 90’s country themes, while infusing a contemporary influence. It was amazing watching him connect with his audience at The 122 in Nampa Thursday evening. Jordan can rockabilly with the best of them, but when he said he was going to do a song he wrote for his wife, whom he has not met yet, I knew immediately THAT was the song I wanted to share with y’all.
Ryan Curtis is an old school honky tonk artist from Boise who played “Tuesdays on the Creek” last night at The Indian Creek Plaza, in Caldwell. The swing dancers were is good form during this concert! Here’s a song about growing up in a small town in Michigan.
John Jones, a jazz guitarist and vocalist from Boise, played Indian Creek Winery Sunday afternoon. He performed mostly jazz standards along with music from Bill Withers, George Benson, The Crusaders, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Ray Charles, The Beatles, and The Eagles. Now, John is pretty old-school. You won’t find him on social media or even the web. You can reach out to him at his MSN email address below. :-) Even though it was out of season, I captured his version of Autumn Leaves.
Vibeka (vee-becca) is a “home grown Idaho tater tot” and singer/songwriter from Boise. Inspired by a recent trip to Nashville, she’s been writing like crazy, and spending time in the studio with her boys laying down some tracks. They should be trickling out in the next few months. As she played Rembrandt’s in Eagle Saturday evening, I captured “Boys in Boots”.
Slaglebois Band, made up of Dave and Doug Slagle, played everything from Bluegrass, to The Blues, to Classic Rock, at Crescent Brewery in Nampa Friday evening. Not far into the first set, they played one of my favorites from Pure Prairie League.
J.R. & The Stingrays opened the 2024 season of the Third Thursdays block party in Downtown Nampa last night. The weather was PERFECT and my favorite part of the evening was a line dance that broke out.
The Tuesday hangout for 20 weeks of the year is up and running again! I’m talking about “Tuesdays on the Creek” at Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. Casio Dreams, an 80’s tribute band based in Boise, opened the 2024 season last night, much to the delight of dancers of all ages.
