A Tasty Jamm (@atastyjamm) plays Swirl Wine Shop & Lounge (@swirlwineshopand) doing a selection of rarely covered songs you know, drizzled over the top of some sweet mashups. Friday night I heard music done by Alanis Morissette, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Elle King, Rob Thomas, Duffy and others. Swipe to hear a little Pat Benatar. :-)
Tom Taylor (https://tomtaylorentertainment.com) is a photo retoucher, motion graphics animator, video producer, musician and songwriter from Boise. He played a good variety of music from the likes of Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash and Jim Croce at Bar 365 (@riversidehotelboise) Sunday afternoon. I captured one of my favorites from James Taylor. (No relation, LOL)
Ragged Coyote (@raggedcoyote) is the moniker for Bobby Speedy Gray. He describes his music as “Psychedelic Folk Country Blues”. With a description like that, how could I stay away!?!? I mean, I love all of those things. :-) I was looking for eclectic sets of music and was not disappointed. Here’s a song about a girl who broke him like a No. 2 pencil from his Saturday show at The 112 in Nampa (@the_112_nampa).
All Souled Out is made up of a core group of friends who typically play the Crescent Brewery weekly. They have been known to invite others to join in to spice things up. In the video clip, they do a tongue-in-cheek country classic originally done by Ashley Monroe and Blake Shelton. Good fun!
Andrew Cahill (@andrewcahillmusic) is a singer-songwriter from Boise who weaves tales through melody and lyrics. He played Bar 365 (@riversidehotelboise) on Sunday afternoon. Andrew has a lot of music on Spotify and Amazon Music, including two new singles just this year. On video, I caught his song about The Chronicles of Narnia.
Dan Costello (@hearcostello) is a singer/songwriter and guitarist based in Boise with a full-time musical career spanning 15 years. He and his friend Jeremiah James (@jeremiahjamesagain) played Twisted District Brewing (@twisted_district) in Garden City. They played a lot of classic country including this gem recorded by Buck Owens and The Beatles in the mid 60s.
Synergy Jazz (@synergyjazztrio) playing the Swirl Wine Shop (@swirlwineshopand) in downtown Nampa. We are hearing some lovely standards and some jazzed-up contemporary music. This is a great way to relax after a freaky Friday!
Brian & Rook Crouse (@rook_pb_crouse) playing the El Tenamoa Restaurant (@eltenampa1993) in Meridian. They describe their shows as a time-travel magic carpet ride. With a description like that, I was excited to be here. The first set included the Beatles, Eagles, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, and this snippet of Tom Petty. They play the same restaurant but in Boise Friday at 6.
Starting this week, Canyon County has a new way to give budding musicians a stage to try out their stuff, and get some love. On Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm, come out to Mesquite Creek Outfitters (@mesquitecreekidaho) in downtown Caldwell, for an open mic hosted by Nathan Board (@nathan.board.90).
In addition to getting a stage, it’s also an opportunity to network with other local musicians, which is key to helping you get established. Then, non-musicians like me, get to hear up-and-coming musicians with the possible opportunity to watch them grow.
In the video clip, Nathan and friends do some Merle Haggard.
Thanks to the Idaho Jazz Society, Bar 365 (@riversidehotelboise) presents a great variety of musicians on Mondays. This week it’s Rob Harding & Steve Prager with their dueling guitars.
When it opens in the spring, Monday Jazz will move to The Sand Bar. Check it out. It’s s nice change of pace.
